Daily Updates from the Command Center
Please see the link below for updates from the COVID-19 Command Center. The Command Center is the Commonwealth’s single point of strategic decision making and coordination for the Administration's comprehensive COVID-19 response. These updates include information pertaining to Governor Baker's declaration of a State of Emergency as well as up to date statistics on COVID-19 patients.
What is COVID-19?
On March 10, Governor Charlie Baker declared a State of Emergency in Massachusetts to support the Commonwealth’s response to the outbreak of Coronavirus. COVID-19 is a new respiratory disease, caused by a novel (or new) coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans. Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed COVID-19 cases. Symptoms of this infection may appear 2-14 days after exposure and include fever, cough and shortness of breath, and in severe cases, pneumonia.
COVID-19 is highly contagious and has the potential to completely overwhelm our healthcare system, which is why it’s vitally important that we take proactive steps to prevent community spread and contain the number of cases. It is important to practice social distancing: stay home as much as possible, avoid non-essential gatherings, keep 6 feet away from others, and wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and water.People with chronic health conditions or aged 65 or older should self-quarantine and treat everyone like they might be a carrier of COVID-19.
